In the event of a fire, smoke and combustion gasses rise up in the building due to their thermal uplift and form a layer of smoke gasses under the ceiling, which fills up the room in a very short space of time.
With smoke vents in the upper sections of the façade or in the roof, smoke and heat can escape. Ventilation openings in the lower area increase the thermal uplift.
